Statue of the Ecole Polytechnique
The "Conscript", a
polytechnician defending Paris during the siege of 1814, which has
become the symbol of Polytechnique, erected at the French academy in
1914 (“Conscrit de 1814”). This was the centennial year of the
participation of the French cadets in the defense of Paris. At West
Point, there is a reproduction of this statue, the "French Soldier" as
the gift of the French cadets and Friends of the Polytechnique,
the alumni association. The monument is well
known to all present and former cadets and holds an important role in
the history and traditions of West Point. (West Point WP-ORG)
At the Ecole Polytechnique, the statue
is right in the court of Vanneau where all the military ceremonies take
place. |
